One of the best ways to achieve smooth, shinny, healthy looking hair is by treating your hair properly from the very beginning of the styling process. Styling your hair starts right in the shower and how you wash it can effect the rest of your good or bad hair day. Here are a few tips on how to create a good hair day in the shower. Cold Water We all know heat can damage our hair and we avoid using heat styling tools, but did you know that washing your hair in hot water can damage your hair!! Heat can dehydrate your hair and cause split ends so as much as we all love a long hot shower, when washing your hair try to stick to as cold a temperature as you can. You Use WHAT Shampoo?? Another way you could be damaging your hair without knowing it is by using too harsh a shampoo that strips your hair of its natural oils, its best to look for a shampoo that is Paraben and Sulfate free, my personal favorite is the Live Clean Hydrating Shampoo which is 97% plant based. Another thing to consider when shampooing your hair is to focus the shampoo on your scalp and let the suds run down to the ends, shampooing the ends of your hair will only dry them out. Why You NEED A Shampoo Brush! If you have't heard about shampoo brushes you are missing out. These plastic handheld brushes are designed to message your scalp in the shower and super inexpensive. Not only dose a shampoo brush provide a relaxing scalp message in the shower in also helps stimulate blood circulating in the scale which encourages hair growth; if you suffer from dry hair it stimulates the oil producing glands, naturally moisturizing hair, and if you have dandruff or build up a shampoo brush can help get rid of any flakes or build up right at the hair follicle. you can get this one from amazon for only $4.20!! How are you using your conditioner?? One mistake people tend to make when applying conditioner is they apply it all over their hair like shampoo. Conditioner should only be applied from the ear down, applying it to the roots will just weigh your hair down ruining your volume. Another common conditioner mistake is rinsing it away immediately, with conditioner you should let the product soak into your hair for at least a minute. My current favorite conditioner is the Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner, which is perfect for dry hair and will leave your hair feeling silky smooth. Not Terry Cloth!! When you get out of the shower do you wrap your hair in a terry cloth towel? Terry cloth towels absorb too much of your hairs moisture and the rough texture cause friction with the hair cuticle causing frizz and breakage . You are much better off using a microfiber towel or if you don't want to invest in one a old tee shirt works just as well.
